As we look towards the coming warm weather, and the change in the seasons, I am looking forward to a change in my professional life as well. Before I look forward, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the 8+ years of a fantastic journey that has prepared me to take this next step. From the early (oh so VERY long) production cycles, to the desire to consolidate data, and ultimately the construction of an enterprise warehouse for a data driven business, it has been quite a ride. I feel my personal growth has been on the ride along with Moore’s law and can honestly say that growth was made possible by the fantastic people around me.
I don’t want this to come across as some kind of eulogy, but rather a reflection on the many great achievements, and seemingly insurmountable obstacles that were overcome. As it generally is in life, as one looks back with rose colored glasses, I think of the 40 hour work days, the late nights, the weekends, right down to writing a book in 30 days, with a certain fondness that only some time and distance can provide. I’m so very proud of the solid, forward thinking, analytical processes that we built. I am not going to, nor should I take credit for those advancements it was in every way a group effort, and feel confident that I am leaving things in a better place than when I arrived.
You might be asking “If it was so good, why are you changing things?” I am not leaving because of a negative of some kind. I can assure you that it is not because I’ve had some kind of personality conflict, disagreement over strategy, or that I am otherwise unhappy. Quite the opposite, I am leaving because I have been offered a new opportunity that is both very exciting and enormously reinvigorating.
For those of you that have read my blog for any length of time know that I have never mentioned the company, nor the people I work with. This is not out of some kind of secrecy, but rather a (absolutely selfless and fantastic) corporate philosophy of putting clients success ahead of all other things… so… I am not about to start now. Rather than spelling out specific projects, and specific people, I will leave it at “you know who you are”, because the people that have influence me, helped me grow and supported me through this journey… you really do know who you are.
This is not goodbye, but wishing you a fond farewell.
I will not be far.
